Our History
Archaeology Scotland’s origins lie with the Scottish Group of the Council for British Archaeology which was set up in January 1944. The Council for Scottish Archaeology formed an independent charitable organisation in 1988 becoming a Scottish charitable limited company, accountable to a Board of Directors in 2004 and formalising the change of name to Archaeology Scotland in 2008. Archaeology Scotland is registered as a Scottish charity with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (SC 001723) and is a limited Company with charitable status, registered in Scotland (SC 262056).
